Aviva Rabinovici

I met Aviva last year when she and her husband visited from Toronto for our mutual friend Kate’s book launch.  I instantly loved her radiant smile and free spirit.  I was thrilled she was willing to participate in the 50 Women Project at short notice and thankfully we found a free hour to squeeze in this fun photoshoot.  Don’t you love her style?

What really matters to you?

Remembering my divinity. Feeling gratitude for every moment I'm given. Letting go of the past; the feelings, and experiences - and of future expectations too. Watching life unfold from a place of never-ending love. Not saying I've yet learned to live there every moment. But this is the practice that matters to me. Finding the joy. Laughing. Living from the deep knowingness of who I truly am.

What brings you happiness?

Dancing - alone or in a crowd, with my eyes closed and my body in tune with the bass.
Authentically connecting with my friends. Spending time to delve deep into what matters to why we matter to each other.
Watching my children self-actualize. They could be my full-time reality show.

What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced?

The same challenges most of humanity faces, I guess. Loss and grief. Financial worries. Physi-mental health issues. But those are really just the rites of passage. I think my truly biggest challenge is to constantly remain in my seat of self. When I'm tapped into who I truly am, challenges are another series of moments to experience. When I lose that connection to self, I'm in danger of being overwhelmed by experiences that feel hard, or scary, or uncomfortable, or unwanted. And they all feel big.

What would you change if you could?

The time I've wasted worried about petty shit. The drama I invented, that then sucked me into the vortex, leaving me spinning and uncertain and scared. The dark times when I neglected to ask for help. Shutting down and going silent in times of stress, rather than speaking my mind. Comparing. Giving into my impulse for malice instead of reaching for kindness. But then again, it's the dirt that acts as the soil for growth, ain't it?

What single word do you identify with?

Faith

“There is a very simple method for staying open. You stay open by never closing.” —Michael Singer

Thank you Aviva!
